Ryan Tate Doesn’t Do Any Research At All
I’ll be honest – since Valleywag merged with Gawker proper, it hasn’t been the same for me. I miss the good ol’ days when Owen’s crew was still running things. Ryan’s OK, but there’s something lacking there, and up until now I’ve never been able to put my finger on it.![]()
I’m guessing that the lays somewhere between common sense and the ability to click on a link.
If you read these pages, you’ve already heard about the weird issue where the whole world thought ReadWriteWeb was Facebook, for whatever reason. Ryan Tate wrote it up at Valleywag the other day, and included a screenshot of the “stupid commentors” who thought RWW was Facebook. The first image, still on the site, is from ReadWriteWeb author and buddy Frederic Lardinois poking a little fun:
So, of the dozens of people who thought RWW was Facebook, and of the seven we screencapped, one was a jokester imitating all the fools. Which has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the accuracy of the post. It does mean I don't know your "buddy," though; if you expect Valleywag to know all your friends intimately, best to stop reading now I guess. Sorry to lose you!
For some reason, my response didn't post earlier.
Frederic isn't just a friend - he's one of the lead writers on the site. If you truly knew anything about Valley news (and RWW is a major force in terms of Valley publications), you'd know that. It wouldn't be hard to find out - scanning that website the butt of your jokes thought was Facebook shows his name a few times without even clicking on a story.
And it does have bearing on the accuracy of the post. If you don't know who works for the site and who writes posts there - what sort of background knowledge or new information could you actually be imparting in your blog post?
