I forgot to post this here – not sure if it got syndicated out to my Twitter and Buzz feeds, so here it is – the video of my trip to Ground Zero last week in NYC.
The music in the background makes it seem a tad bit more maudlin than the actual experience was for me. It was somewhat of a somber experience for me, but for the most part (aside from the gaping hole so carefully obscured from view by the 10 foot fences), people seemed to almost not even notice it. Most of the foot traffic near the site was going someplace else, though a sizeable portion of folks seemed to stop and stare at what used to be the tallest building in the city.
Personally, I find it a little bit more disturbing that we haven’t erected a real replacement yet, but they are making solid progress on some neighboring buildings, as you’ll see in the video.
Incidentally, there was a single mosque protestor on site who was attempting to start arguments with passers-by on why there shouldn’t be a mosque here. I say attempting, since most people that initially disagreed with her quickly relented and walked on.
